When I was seventeen years old, I started to make a book.  That began a journey that has had some very high points.  It has also had some very low points.  On the way, I learned a lot about myself and about interesting other people.  I had two panic attacks, played 3,482 games of Free Cell and did some things I never thought I could do.

I also wrote three novels - The Drowning People, Us and The Lighted Rooms, which is called Natural Elements in some parts of the world - and some journalism.

Here’s what some people who have met me for 45 minutes think I’m like.

My fourth novel, History of a Pleasure Seeker, will be published in the UK in May this year.  The American edition will be out in January 2012.
