Natural Elements My great-grandmother was interned by the British in a concentration camp during the Anglo-Boer War of 1899-1901. Natural Elements began as an act of homage to her, and the writing of it took me on a journey that ended up encompassing dementia, rare metals, forgotten conflicts, nursing homes, stock market bubbles, middle-aged passion and Victorian erotica. Natural Elements was published in Britain and certain other countries as The Lighted Rooms. Here's me talking about it. (I get both the American title and the dates of the Anglo-Boer War wrong. I did know them, honest.)
